Help! How does a doctor determine how far along you are?

I am new to here and have never been pregnant until now. I am dreading the doctors, i'm scared. Can someone please tell me how they determine how far along you are? Are they going to have to insert anything in me :(

When my daughter was pregnant, they asked her for a urine sample, asked when her last period was(they have a chart to help tell when ur due date is), and depending on how far along she was, they did an internal sonogram. I had never seen that before, but she got to see her baby as a tiny peanut! It also helps determine how far along you are.

Last menstrual period and u/s. If you have problems with internal things, let them know.

It's no worse then a regular Gyno exam.

I see it occasionally in rape victims or history of sexual abuse.

lol....they dont insert anything in you, ok they will want to do a pap smear but that should be all.

They will ask when ur last period was, then they will give you a date.  They will give you an external ultra sound to confirm due date around 12 weeks.

It's worked out via last period, cycle length and ultra sound. Depending on how far along you are they may use an internal scan. As others have said, if you have a problem with internal exams let them know.

They will ask the date of your last period and do an internal ultrasound.  I find regular gyno exams painful, but the ultrasound I didn't think hurt in the least.  No worries! Good luck and congrats!

btdt personally.  If she's going to have a baby she'd better get ready for lots more trauma down there than a simple U/s wand.
