Out of curiosity, why does your husband's idea automatically trump any other? If that really isn't what you want to do, you should discuss it and find a comprimise. Not that I think your kids will suffer at all, Christmas isn't about how many presents you get, but I'm wondering why his say counts only.

Why are your plans crushed? Talk with him about what can be affordable to your family and go from there. Never fun to have this kind of idea sprung on us when we have things planned out , i agree.
