My favorite is Elphie!

Bonus points if you know where it came from!

I *love* it, and the character (Elphaba) it came from.

It's a bit odd for a child though, that's why it's my fur kid's name and not my human kid's.

:) just being random!

What are some if the odd names you love or hate?

You'd be surprised how many people tell me that name is dumb.

I like it!

Thanks for the support though!

But, we're talking about odd names. Any others you can think of?

I know a child named Zephyr.

Quoting PrettyinaCasket:

I am so sorry for your loss.  I think both of those names are lovely and I think it would be a wonderful name should you have another daughter.  I am sure she would be proud to have a name that honors her big sister and have the same initials as your Mama and Gran.  I don't know why people are so hostile about the name Nevaeh, there are names I don't like or that aren't my style but I would never shit talk them or put someone down for using them the way I have seen some do with that particular name.  I think it's pretty, myself, and I like the possibility of the nicknames that you could use with it.

I lost my baby girl, Heaven Grace before she was born. If I ever have another daughter her name will be Eleanor Nevaeh, and I know people think its a dumb name. But, honors my daughter and is the same initials as my late mom and late grandma. So, it's the perfect name.

I'm from East Texas and supposedly there were two girls named Ima and Ura (not sure about spelling).  Their last name was Hogg.  The name Ura is pronounced "you're a".

I was going to name my soon to be son Jolon (joe-lon, on like on/off). I think its pretty unique. But I changed it to Jeramia James

I felt that it was a chickshit attack for my post by lack of quoting me. My bad for thinking that...

I still don't like it, but would never tell someone I know or met with a dd with that name, that's just rude!

I know someone with 3 girls named Skarlett, Mikahla, & Triniti; do I like any of those names? Nope, but her kids not mine.

agree to disagree & truce?

Quoting PrettyinaCasket:

I wasn't refering to you or what you said about the name, I would have replied to you if I was.  When I read your comment it just made me remember the eleventy thousand posts I've seen all over the internet with people straight going off on Moms of kids with that name.

Quoting waffa:

I'm not "up in arms" over the name; the reason I don't like it is for a few reason's:

1. not a unique nor traditional name, just like some odd spelling of a common name

2. yep, sounds like a stripper name. I admit it.

I have other gripes about it, but not really worth typing.

sorry, more traditional name kinda Mom here (Brandon & Melissa)

Quoting PrettyinaCasket:

I don't know why so many people get so up in arms over Nevaeh, it's a freakin' name but I've seen people jump all over Moms for naming their babies that.  I once saw a woman tell someone that her daughters name was a stripper name and that she would grow up to be a stripper because of it.  As a former dancer I have never met any dancer that used their ACTUAL given name as a stage name, that's dangerous.  Aside from that the woman who told this Mother this had a daughter named Heaven Leigh, which is the name of an actual porn actress.  So what the fuck?  lol

One of the possible names on my list if this baby is a girl is Lynlee Alessia to honor my grandmother Lyn Alexander. I'm not dead set on it but I think it's pretty and unusual.

Oh, I'm totally cool with disagreeing, everyone has their own taste in names.  I feel like it's a very personal thing, ya know?  That's why I try not to judge or be rude even when I don't like a particular name or the spelling of the name makes absolutely no sense to me at all.  lol  I just didn't want you to think I was being a bitch when that wasn't my intention at all.  I didn't see anything wrong with what you said, but it seems like a lot of people I've encountered who don't like that name can just be down right ruthless and cruel to Moms whose kids have that/those names.

In general I try to be respectful because of the personal nature of names, I don't want anyone to think I'm talking about their child in particular, even when I answer name posts I won't say anything rude, I'll either just be like not really my style or that I don't like the way it flows & it's just not my style.  There's too much negativity on Cafemom anyway, so I try to be polite, respectful and treat people the way they treat me, which is how I try to be in my everyday dealings with people as well.

I like Scarlett but with the traditional spelling, but Gone With the Wind has been my favorite movie since I was 4 and my favorite book since I read it at 10, so that's why I like it, I've always been very drawn to Gone With the Wind. I like a lot of traditional names too, Charlotte is one of my favorite girl names, I've loved it since I was a little girl & I like the nickname Charleigh for Charlotte when she's a little girl.  I also like Elizabeth (because I love English History & am fascinated with Elizabeth Woodville the Yorkist Queen during the War of the Roses, Victoria, Katherine (because of Catherine of Aragon) etc.  I like a pretty eclectic variety of names.

wow, a level head! nice to meet you Pretty.

I get what you say, I don't say squat about someone's choice of a name to them but do disagree with some popular names in general. I would never be rude to a real person with a kid named something I don't care for.

btw, my youngest was either going to be Elizabeth, Emma, or Melissa; I have to meet my child before I decide and Melissa won based on her size at birth of 5lbs and change/18" (look up the origin of the name and you'll get it)
