Heat off = Carbon Monoxide?

We just turned the heat on this year and now the CO2 detector keeps going off. What the hell? I'm freaking out. Father in law says it's normal.

EDIT: I turned the heat off and the alarms stopped.

That is not normal.  Ask the firedepartment if they can check your homes' co2 levels?

That's what I said. It's his house that we're staying in right now. (November 30th is the closing on our house thank goodness.) I just can't wait to be out of here. They take the most serious matters so lightly.

I'm assuming your heater is natural gas, so would say there is a leak.

keep it off until someone can take a look at it (handyman 1st, but if it needs replacement call a plumber or HVAC Co as they are licensed to make that type of repair)

Idk what it is. I guess it's gas. Definitely not oil.

But he won't have someone come in because he's not gonna want to spend the money. I just can't wait to get out of here.

Not normal! A couple near me just died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Their family said it was the first time they turned on the heat for the year.  Keep it off until you can get it checked! If its freezing buy/borrow a space heater for the time being.
