can you do your taxes off last check stub

Hubby and i usually file our taxes ourselves through turbotax but im wondering can you use last check stub? is the numbers any different than w-2 numbers and whats the earliest you can file?

It depends on how you get paid. My last paycheck in December was on the 21st, so I'm missing 10 days of pay and taxes paid.

But my employer is posting my W2 on our work website before January 15th.

Nope. You should not. If the company offers healthcare and or retirement the numbers could very well be different. And truthfully you have no reason to since the IRS doesn't start business till the third week in Jan and refunds will not start until the first week in Feb at the earliest.

Federal taxes go by what you received in the year, not what was earned. If you have a check cut 12/31 or earlier and haven't picked it up yet, don't go by whatever pay stub you have.

State taxes vary by state so I have no idea about those.

No bc it might not include some of the last of the years money or benefits.
