I was just having a conversation this morning at work with a couple co workers and one of them was saying how there is a pair of boots she wants and she told her mom..I started laughing and was saying how there are times I'm like oh I really want this and my parents will buy it for me and be like oh it's your birthday present evening it is a few months early, or if they know there is something I really want but won't by it for myself because of the cost or something they will get it for me. It doesn't happen all the time but it does happen. I would do the same for my kids and if my parents ever needed anything I would be there to help any way I could,. Well another co worker that was sitting there told us that was sad and that we were mooching off our parents and that once your an adult you shouldn't get anything from your parents but should be there to give them whatever they need. He said he doesn't get birthday gifts nothing any time from his mom and was told at 13 when he needed new shoes that he better get a job then..to me that is sad. So it got me wondering how many of you have parents that will buy you things or do more of you have parents that say you are an adult I'm not buying anything for you.

my mom still buys me things, even my husband she notices he needs a new jacket or something she will give money for it. I never ask for anything from her but she will buy stuff and I will do the same for her and my dad all the time.

My dad is always buying me things. He likes to, so I don't see an issue with it. LOL.

I get a small Birthday Present and only the grandchildren get Christmas gifts.  Once I became a mom it became about the grandkids and all gifts for me other than my birthday pretty much stopped.  I get usually a $25 gift card to a restaurant or store for my birthday.

My parents have 4 kids and 9 grandchildren.  They can't afford to buy for everyone.   For Christmas all 9 grandchildren got a new pair of pajamas, an ornament, some candy and $50 in cash.  So do the math you are talking over $600.  They couldn't then afford the 4 kids too.

Well my mom didn't stop being my mom and my dad didn't stop being my dad. I'm still their "little" girl even after hitting 40.

My mom is the same as your co-worker's.  But my MIL loves to buy stuff for my husband and me. We don't ask, but she knows what we like. I collect cookbooks, so whenever she finds a neat one, she gets it for me. and When she knows I am having a super hectic month, she will send me a gift card for a massage, facial and mani-pedi from my favorite day spa.

She enjoys giving gifts to the people she loves. I think most parents like to spoil their children a little, even after they are grown. Nothing wrong with that.

I think it's sad his mom stopped buying him stuff at 13.

My parents still buy me stuff, most of the time I don't even ask. They just do it. Sometimes they even give me money (usually $20 but sometimes more) every once in a while to spend on myself. I'm entirely grateful and blessed to have them.
