My daughter is grown and I have a grandson but I still buy things for my daughter because I want to, not because she asks............it's my choice
my mom always offers to buy us things. i have to tell her no or she would buy everything for me lol. it helps at times and i try an give back when i can
My dad is always buying me things. He likes to, so I don't see an issue with it. LOL.
I get a small Birthday Present and only the grandchildren get Christmas gifts. Once I became a mom it became about the grandkids and all gifts for me other than my birthday pretty much stopped. I get usually a $25 gift card to a restaurant or store for my birthday.
My parents have 4 kids and 9 grandchildren. They can't afford to buy for everyone. For Christmas all 9 grandchildren got a new pair of pajamas, an ornament, some candy and $50 in cash. So do the math you are talking over $600. They couldn't then afford the 4 kids too.
Well my mom didn't stop being my mom and my dad didn't stop being my dad. I'm still their "little" girl even after hitting 40.
My mom is the same as your co-worker's. But my MIL loves to buy stuff for my husband and me. We don't ask, but she knows what we like. I collect cookbooks, so whenever she finds a neat one, she gets it for me. and When she knows I am having a super hectic month, she will send me a gift card for a massage, facial and mani-pedi from my favorite day spa.
She enjoys giving gifts to the people she loves. I think most parents like to spoil their children a little, even after they are grown. Nothing wrong with that.
My parents still buy me stuff, most of the time I don't even ask. They just do it. Sometimes they even give me money (usually $20 but sometimes more) every once in a while to spend on myself. I'm entirely grateful and blessed to have them.
