ok so our main source of heat is elect. and I was short 30 bucks on last months bill. i got the new bill for feb. it has outsanding bal of 29.17 and current billing ... and the total due on feb 10 and after.. feb 15 it adds a 20.00 late fee. normal right?

But we got a shut off notice for the back due which is 29.17, and we just dont have it! I am on stricked bed rest i go in for the c section tuesday if we make it. and i dont even have stuff for the new baby! we have 3 other kids at home with us and the only place in town that provieds accistence is the food bank, they gave us a food box but cant help beyond that. my husband started a new job but had to take the last two weeks off because of my helth and his first cheak we were expecting between 700-1000 but when it showed up it was just under 300 because of cs support (same amount that we knew was coming out) and the rest was taxes!! he called his employer and there looking into it because just shy of 500 pulled out in taxes when he only makes 15 an hour? dosnt sound right.

if they turn power off we will have no heat, and out side right now it is 30 with nights getting into -teens. The animal control is issueing animal abuse fines to anyone who leaves the animals outside at nigh it is been so cold. I know in idaho they legaly can not shut off power in the winter if you have kids but we get our power through wells rurel elec company and we live on the utah side of town. Sorry about not making much sence and spelling i am so stressed and already took the pills the doc gave me to help/make me relax and sleep.

I would contact the power company and try to work out a deal.  Then look at the dept of social services for help for whichever state you are in.  It sounds like a whole bunch of bad things happened at once for your family.

I know my electric company let us work out a payment arrangement when my dh was laid off for an extended period. We received a disconnect and didn't have it before the date of disconnection so I called and they gave us a 2 week extension which gave us time to come up with the money. Have you called them?

Contact the power company ASAP. If you can't get through, go through your state rep or senator.

Have you called the electric company yet?  Normally they will agree to a payment plan if you are TRYING to be proactive.  They want your money, not your family out in the cold.

Simply call them up.  Explain the outstanding balance of 29.7 is being worked into your budget, and ask if they can possibly help.  Say, offer to pay an extra $5 a month until caught up.  Also, most companies won't shut off your power for being only a month behind.  It's most likely a letter reminding you that you are past due, and trying to scare you into paying by stating the ultimate consequence is a loss of power.

As for the taxes, the employer is looking into it.  Remember, we are all now back to paying the SS tax we were given a break on last year, so that might be affecting it.  If your DH gets health insurance from the company, that could be part of it.  Many companies are changing the policy and stuff due to the new healthcare laws.

Do you have any family or friends who could loan you the past due amount?

Call your city hall and ask who to talk to about the laws saying they can't turn off heat in winter.  Someone should be able to inform you if you are protected by that law.

Finally, call local churches.  They may have baby stuff to help you out.  Some even have programs to help people just like you who are behind on the bills.  Don't fret if you aren't a church-going kind of person.  Most churches serve a spiritual function as well as a community one.  God wants us to help our fellow man, he doesn't dictate that we ONLY help those who attend our church!  If they do help you, it is courteous to help them back someday when you can.  Say, donate maternity clothes, bring by a bunch of rice crispy treats, or simply send a letter saying thank you and a picture of the family they helped.  Don't be discouraged if the first church you call can't help.  Ask them if they know anybody or any organization that can.  Many churches also are in touch with community centers and services that might be able to help.

we have called them and as for working with us its a no. last month DAY AFTER christmas at 8am our power was shut off, my husband took in the documents PROVING i was in the hospital since the fifth of december, (got out chrismass eve)  so our bill was only 150 bucks but it cost us 300 to get it back on and we only owed for december.  the thirty i owe is for JANUARY!! the messed up thing is the water company will shut off for same month owed but were used to that one and when i called the city and flatt told them were i had to spend the 60 that normaly goes to them they agreed to give us an extra week and that let me pay decembers bill january 1 and since i had the money i just paid the bill for this month as well. I AM NOT MAKING EXCUSSES, my dad took a tile loan just so he could make it up here from Az and my husband is returning to work monday and is going to miss the birth of his only daughter because bills have to get paid

as for the family loan/friend everyone is broke we asked.  and his new work dosnt offer insurence and i PERSONALY think that the ss tax is bull because my moms only income is ss and goverment help and they cut her benifets this year, they expect her to servive off of 350 a month with a 11 year old kid? (her dad is in prison so NO support from him)  (she had stroke and she has no feeling in the left side of her body, and her memory is that of a goldfish.

Alot of states have something called an emergency relief. It's they will pay off your bill as long as you make a small payment along with theirs. You just need to contact a local DHS office and see what they can do for you.

You really waited to long and in Ohio if you have children you are shit out of luck as far as that goes they will shut you off. You shouldn't have waited so long to try to work something out I would be on the phone to churches there has to be some social services that can point you in the right direction or call job and family services. If you have jewelry or something you can get a loan on there are many places that will do that as long as you have ID, I would be looking at all avenues. Even a tv or dvd player anything you can sell in a hurry. Most cashland or any payday loan place will take about anything now a days.
