Has anyone ever broken their big toe? UPDATED with photos

I busted my ass and slid down my icey front steps friday night. My whole left big toe is 90% purple and hurts like hell. It hurts if anyone touches or if one of my kids accidentally step on it.

If I went to the hospital and it was broke would they cast my foot?

I'll add a pic of it tomorrow. It looks horrible :(

I think for a toe, the best they can do is buddy tape it. But I've never broken my big toe...sprained it, though, lol

toes they usually just tape to the other toe next to it to make it stay still. my mom broke her little toe and she just taped it up to the others rather than go the the hospital it looks fine now.

they also make splints you can prob find at a walmart or walgreens

Toe Alignment Splint

they seem to run abt 16-30 dollars

Depends where the break is. They might cast your whole foot. Other toes they usually tape but your big toe I think is different.

Best you can do is tape it to the toe next to it and wear sturdy shoes.

They just tape it and put it in one of those blue boot things.

No but I did get a hairline fracture in my pinky toe,it healed and I broke it again,I am so clumsy,my toe was purple, black and blue, they had to insert a pin and then took it out a few days later,I think I had a boot because it was extremely painful and hard to walk on it and it was all wrapped up,now I can't break it anymore,it looks funny though,it has a big scar down the middle of it too...

Toes are tough.  I would think that if you can't see the break the doctor would only tape it. I broke the second toe and I could SEE that it was broke.  Th doctor had to numb my toe and reset the bone.....
