Landlord/ property manager. Edit**Sunday**

So we are renting a house. We have been here for around nine months now. The owner of the home has a landlord/ property manager in charge of the house who o give the rent to and stuff. I write two checks every month one for the owner of the house and one for the manager. Well I paid rent for Feb. last Friday. Last night the manager called and said he lost the checks and wanted me to bring new ones today. So this morning I stopped payment on the first checks I wrote and made out new ones. I was charged a $30 fee for stopping payment. So I took it out of the amount that the manager gets since it was his mistake. Now he is mad and all the sudden coming over on Sunday to do a house inspection. He did not even do this before we moved in to check the condition the last tenants left it in. We feel he is just looking for something to complain about or to kick us out over becuase I took the fee out of his check. Was I in the wrong for making him pay for his mistake?

Edit on Sunday

well it looks like he just isn't going to show up at all. He said two o clock and it is now after three. He didn't call or email or anything. Just didn't show. We rearranged our whole weekend for this and he is soo rude.

I would have done the same thing. Esp since he lost the checks causing you to have to do a stop payment. Otherwise he would have valid checks he can cash at anytime.

You should have clarified that you felt entitled to do that before doing it.
It is only right for him to deduct it from your payment, but communication is key.
I'd take the issue to the owner.

That's how we feel. But he is mad about it.

I would have reacted the same way you did. You shouldn't have to pay for his mistake. Put up with his overreaction and be as polite as possible. Hopefully, he doesn't continue to harass you.

I have never had any contact with the owner and do not know any contact info for them. But he also did not tell me he had a problem with it instead he called my husband to complain.

The home inspection does seem like retaliation for sure. I think you did the right thing though

He gets part of the rent so instead of the owner getting paid and then them having to pay the manager I write them each thier own check for thier part of the rent. Our rent is $1300 a month and the manager gets $130 of that normally.

Our lease is up in four months. We are hoping to buy a house but if he finds some reason to kick us out then we would only have 60 days to do so and I don't know if we can find a house , close and move in that amount of time.
