Can you measure his torso? (Sit him net to a wall and measure to shoulders ) what budget?

Basuc recommendations without knowing that would be the frontier 85 ( 20 inch top slots great booster) or the harmony defender ( 18 ~ish slots good booster and under $100 from walmart).

What is your budget for your next seat?

Quoting Bookoholic:

Yes there still above but not for long and he's 30lbs been that way for almost a yr

Quoting Kris_PBG:

How much does your son weigh?

Are the straps coming from above his shoulders?

Less then $150, I found a car seat for $100 that meets the criteria for safety.

There are three factors to outgrowing a car seat when using it forward-facing:

1) By reaching or exceeding the maximum weight limit.

2) By growing taller than the top available harness slot.

3) By growing so tall that the tips of the child's ears are above the top of the car seat's plastic shell.

If you do need a new seat, and can afford it, I recommend a Britax Frontier 85. My family loves the two we have for my son!

Every child is different! My son outgrew one of his seats by height. (:

The Maestro is a good seat for under a hundred, as well as the harmony defender. Both have 18" top harness slots. The SecureKid or Nautilus would be the next step up, as they make taller boosters and would likely be the last seat you would need. Top of the line is the Frontier, with 20" top slots and avery tall shell.
