 Hello All,

I'm looking for private health insurance for our family and it is soooo frustrating! Which company really offers the "best" rates? We live in GA...if that matters.

We have Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and I don't really have any complaints......although we've never really had a choice in the matter because we've always had insurance through our employer(s).

My husband had United for a while, and he HATED it.

we ditched Blue Cross last fall and have an Aetna Value plan. Cheaper and much better coverage.

Individual coverage is still individually underwritten (until 2014), and each company rates conditions differently. Additionally, not every company is competitive with each product (insurance plan) they offer. I would suggest contacting an insurance broker (think Progressive for Heath insurance) to get quotes from multiple insurance companies on multiple plans. I just Googled "medical insurance broker Georgia" and found several options.

incidentally, the state exchanges that are in the works because of health care reform do this same thing. Not to turn this political, but just to educate.
