I was invited to a jewelry and handbag party by a good friend. I'd love to go and see her however, I am not interested in buying anything. I've never been to a party like that before, am I obligated to buy something? I don't want to look cheap but don't care to buy something that I don't want just because. What is the etiquette on something like this?

You're not obligated but they sure do make you feel like you are! I hate those parties.

You don't HAVE to buy. But many of the sales-people at these types of parties are pushy. Tell your friend up-front that you plan to come but will NOT be buying anything.

You don't have to buy anything if you don't want to.

It's a combo of peer pressure and slightly pushy sales people. You keep hearing "You don't have to buy anything" but then in the same breath it's like "But your host will earn xyz if you buy $x.xx of stuff!"

I've never gone to that type but I have been to several sex toy parties and have never bought anything.
