Any pointers/tips on buying a used new car?

My husband's car has over 300,000 miles on it and it's time to let it go.  He drives over 100 miles a day to and from work, so he's obviously looking for something safe and gets good gas mileage.

TIA:o)

if its used ask them to let you take it to an in dependant person to have it checked out. Then do just that. You probably will pay and in dependant garage $50 or so.But it will be worth it to know how sound the car really is.Also look on Kelly blue book for the car and get a ball park idea of the going rate for that car.

Take it to a mechanic and carfax is a report on the car that tells you if its ever been in an accident.

buy a used car that is the same year or a 2012 if you are wanting a NEW car.  you lose about 10,000 dollars worth of value on a brand new car once you drive it off the lot.  let someone else pay the depriciation.  also that means the car has been driven so all mechanical problems have probably been taken care of by the previous owner or the dealership.  and if not the car will still have the manufacturers warrenty.  also always finance in the gap insurance.  it covers what your regular insurance doesnt incase the vehicle is totaled.

My daughter just got her first car and really lucked out, talk to the previous owner if possible, you want to know how they maintained the car.  The guy who had the car before my daughter was the original owner and had a folder full of all the scheduled maintenance done on it and we got a carfax.
