waterproof a couch for patio?

does anyone know how I could recover a couch to make it waterproof for a patio? I'm not sure I've ever seen it done or what I would use etc.. once it gets REALLY wet it will get ruined i know this. so I want to cover it in something. if I could use just an old couch and make a cover i might do that. MY back patio has a roof that only leaks on one half... i want to make my back patio more kid and summer friendly with some shades to pull to get sun out of our eyes, a cooling "mist" system, seating and that sort of thing. got an indoor outdoor rug last weekend :) but im curious about the couch situation....

There are sprays you can get to spray the couch to make it water proof.  Like you said though, if it gets soaked, it'd probably be ruined, but it would probably work fine for the misters.

I want to do that to my backyard too!

My mom made a cover out of vinyl outdoor table clothes. But it's just for when they are not in use.
