Stent advise for kidney

One part might be tmi at the end........I have a stent due to a kidney stone. I am not in pain just discomfort down there when i walk and sit a certain way. Is that normal? Also i have a string on it in case i want to pull it out at home if it gets too bad. Anyone ever have a stent? What made it better worse? Will this discomfort go away? I have to have it in for 2 weeks! Any pointers on how to not accidentally yank the wire when i wipe?

I hated that stupid thing so bad! It was the worst 2 weeks of my life. I was not given a string, the stent is there to keep the tube from your kidney to your bladder from collapsing after surgery which prevents further surgery to fix the collapsed tube. My doctor removed it and it was one of the best feelings in the world.

This is my second one in less then two weeks. I had a stone and they had to break it apart. So they did and put a stent in with no string. But i was in so much pain he took it out a few days later. The next thing i know i end up in the ER 5 mins later. The next day i had to go for a ct and they found two fragments and had to go in again for surgery that day. They took them out. No stent but them was still in so much pain. He decided to put another stent in with a string in case i need to take it out. If it gets that bad. This stent is not even close to how i felt last time. Its just discomfort when i walk and sit certain ways. I will take this over 3 weeks of pain that was worse then labor! Did you stent get any better with the discomfort and peeing 24/7?

1 mom liked this

No. It sucked the whole time. I barely moved off my right side at all. My left kidney felt like it was going to explode, walking, sitting, anything peeing was the worst. Pain meds didn't help, peeing was a horror and I almost fainted in the shower twice.

Worst 2 weeks of my life. I called the doctor 3 times and each time they said it had to stay in the whole 2 weeks. If they had given my a string I would have yanked that bastard out in a second.

I don't envy you. I had bilats for two months. They were so painful. I will never have a stint again.

Finally my kidney doesn't hurt! Its just discomfort. I sat in a chair today with my son was at the pool for 4hours and i was fine because i was sitting. When i got up it feels like burning down there. When i pee it doesn't hurt and kinds like a relief from the discomfort. I am just worried i pulled it out a bit because the tp got caught on the string. and i cant call the doctor till Monday.

You could call the after hours number or the nurses hotline to ask.

No if i had i would've ripped it out! But it sounds like you're not in as much pain as i was in. I spent weeks in the hospital. I was pregnant and they could blast mine. I had seven stones in one side and two in the other.

I did have stent two Thursdays ago for the first surgery. I was in so much pain he took out only to find out i had two fragments they were stuck on top of the stent. So after two surgeries not feeling better he put a new one in. He left the string in case it gets that bad again( its not to that point yet)
