In May my son failed his end of kindergarten test...pretty badly. I asked the school if they would let him go to summer school and let my mom and me work with him...then he could retake the test at the end of summer.I said if he fails again we will go ahead and hold him back but if he passes let him go to first grade with his class mates. He retook the test in july a week before school started and he passed so he promoted. We were all still a little worried though... the principal said " if he seems to be struggling we can always put him back in kinder". the teacher sent home all of the work he has been doing and he hasn't gotten anything lower than a B on any of it.... and she says he is very well behaved. I could just brust buttons.

We got his first progress report yesterday... he got an A in language, a B in math. and and A+ in science and social studies and a C- in penmanship... I am so very proud of him !!!!

Good for you mama taking the time and effort to get your son up to speed. so many kids take getting held back as a real blow to their self esteem. I would have done the same as you did and put in the time to try and get him to the point of moving on but if that didn't work then let him retake kindergarten. Congrats to your ds!

Honey, i know, you want your son in school.

He is better off being 6 years old.

Then being  5 years old or a baby 6 years old.

A Solid 6 year old, does better in school.

Good mamas should take good care and efforts to back up with their speed.I too, with the teachers help would do the same thing. It makes the mother proud that the sons ability and her efforts are fruitful.Cheers
