Implanon Question - When is it effective?

So I got implanon on Monday and the pamphlet says it's effective 5 days after you start your period. I haven't had a period since sept 2010 so I asked the lady who put it in my arm. She was unsure but said 7 days from insertion. Anyone know?

They told me a week. But I think it's effective immediately, they want you to wait just to be safe

Im not sure. I had it for a full 3 years, but never got a period. and I didn't have a period a year before because I was breastfeeding. I would say after a week you should be good to go.
