ok  so i have a  20 month old..  20 1/2 months  i guess he talks   not in sentences yet but syas many words heres the thing lol most he says normally.. mommy, daddy,  down, up , monkey.. idk just a bunch of words " no"  but then for some reason other words he  whispers only..  idk why  he says  in a whisper like voice "   a ball"  as he picks up  a ball  same  for a car , book, or a food.

i dont recall my ds1 doing this.. maybe he did but if so.. i forgot.

anyone have a lo do this? do we know why they whisper some words &  YELL or speak others in a regualr voice?

im not worried.  he can talk with a  regualr voice & make sounds.. i just dont understand why he whispers some words & doesn't for others.. i THINK  the most recent words are the ones he whispers like he is stil unsure?

the ones he has down for a long time he says but he says them so clearly idk why he;d feel insecure lol.

 anyway.. anyone??

My 23 month old whispers some. Usually whenever I ask him to repeat what he just said, so not helpful! Lol I just use it as a teaching moment. "That is a great whisper! It's nice to talk quietly inside!".

it really is odd. if i say what? he just repeats in a whisper tone again lol.  he is doing it now.. he got a pretend phone for a present today & he  knows the  word phone so he said in a real tone WOW then he whispered " a phone"  lol.  it came with a book & he siad " a book in a whisper tone too but put the phone to his ear & yelled HI haha. so idk.. like i said not worried bc i can see he can talk just curious really why. my ds1 gets speech i may ask her.. maybe  its  part of their learning idk.

I'd take it as a good sign he's exploring the range of his voice. Maybe playing a game that explains the different volumes?

not always.. he will point out a window  when he wanst to go out & say " outside" in a whisper  if he hears a dog bark outside he  looks and then says ina  whisper " doggy" he also whispers " yeh" for yes so no , not all words  are the ones that are objects  he is holding.. its kinda random i guess.

he could just be experimenting with words and how they sound and how they feel on his tongue in a whisper. you could run your concerns by your ped and see if an eval by a speech therapist is warranted.

maybe.. not sure why he does it.   a few months back we did have him evaluated bc he only had like  a few words & my ds1 has delays  that im all caught up in. so I figured  let me make sure im not over looking any needs ds2 has. they found no concerns at all & the week after of course was a word explosion lol. he can talk loud, yell, scream, talk normal, & whisper.. so its not like i  feel why cnat he talk  normal.. im sure theres a reason but i just didnt know why & was hoping someone knew.  im really not concerned . but i will  run it by my ds1's speech therapist to see if there is a reason for it. id love to understand why he does it.
