What are your holiday traditions?

In my family we celebrate Christmas and have several traditions my husband and I grew up with that we are continuing to pass on to our own family.

-We go get our real Christmas tree the day after thanksgiving
- we order pizza and decorate our tree together with holiday music. Any family or friends are welcome to join. It's always a fun time to just hang out and talk about holiday memories.
- my daughters love the new tradition of elf on the shelf.
- my nieces and nephews come for a weekend the week before Christmas and we spend all weekend making the Christmas cookies.
- we celebrate Christmas Eve with my husbands family where we have a traditional Italian La Vigilia with the Feast of the Seven Fishes and then attend midnight mass.
- Christmas Day is spent with my family
- New Year's Eve we host a party every year.

I'd love to hear everyone else's holiday traditions

We don't really have a tradition. Well I guess we do, we celebrate on Christmas day by opening gifts. Christmas eve we open stockings put on music drink egg nog, watch movies (xmas). During the holiday season we drive to see the lights.
NYE we celebrate with the kids then go out for our time.

We put our tree up sometime after Thanksgiving. It's never the day after, but sometimes Saturday or Sunday..sometimes the weekend after that.

The kids always get pajamas on Christmas Eve. And we have eggs, sausage, oranges, and blueberry muffins for breakfast Christmas morning.

The traditions we do now are ones that we have started since having a family. During the season we drive around to look at the lights. We each get to pick out a new ornament every year usually from craft fairs, they usually reflect a hobby or favorite toy or animal. We have several get togethers throughout the season. One with family friends that are in their 80's, we eat goodies and do a gift exchange. Another with my sister and her family and our mom. We have a potluck lunch and make ornaments. My sister and our dad is another gathering.  We have a dinner with him on Christmas Eve and exchange scratch tickets(seriously!) Then Christmas morning we open gifts with our girls and have a huge breakfast and then spend the day at my SIL's house for lunch and gifts with my husbands mom, father and step mom. Phew! by the end I am done with Christmas!

We are starting one for cutting down our own Christmas Tree this year. I had a fake one before and my husband hates it. So we're going to make this our yearly thing.

We always give the kids one gift to open on Christmas Eve and it's jammies to wear to bed. This year we're going to make it a box with jammies, some popcporn, hot chocolate and a movie to watch.

I would say the normal stuff, Xmas eve with extended family and Xmas day for ourselves. Real tree every year. For the last ten or 12 years, Dh would get Cinnabon's. A big box of 12 with extra icing for us to eat on Xmas day. My son is now 19, and last year he suprised us with getting the traditional Cinnabon and bringing them home for us to eat!

A real tree makes such a difference! I always grew up with one, my husband did not. We got a real one for my oldest daughter's first Xmas and my husband became hooked lol. He loves the smell.

I love the idea of pjs on Xmas Eve! I just may have to borrow that from you
