We like to do a ham and that potato casserole with the cream of chicken soup in it.

My favorite is wine cookies. They are perfect to dip in coffee.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

¾ cup butter, softened

¼ cup shortening

1 cup packed brown sugar

½ cup granulated sugar

¾ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

2 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 12-ounce package (2 cups) semisweet chocolate pieces or miniature candy-coated semisweet chocolate pieces

1 ½ cups chopped walnuts or pecans, toasted if desired (optional)

1.      Preheat oven to 375°F.  In a large mixing bowl beat butter and shortening with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds.  Add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt.  Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally.  Beat in eggs and vanilla until combined.  Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer.  Using a wooden spoon, stir in any remaining flour.  Stir in chocolate pieces, and, if desired, walnuts.

2.      Drop dough by rounded teaspoons 2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 9 minutes or until edges are light brown.  Transfer to a wire rack and let cool. Makes about 60 cookies.

We tend to do traditonal too.  The one thing I make that isn't from our family is pea salad.  It is amazing if you love peas!  I usually only make it for holidays and it doesn't come from my family.  It comes from my ex dh's family.  I love it!!!
