There are few things more frustrating than trying to feed a toddler. What is it about these short people that makes them so incredibly picky? It seems as though even kids with a once adventurous palate eventually turn their little noses up at anything except one or two favorites -- probably chicken nuggets.

This can be frustrating, to say the least, to moms that don't want to lie to their pediatricians when they ask if our toddlers are eating their fruits and veggies.

Here are the 11 stages moms go through trying to feed their picky eaters.

1. You learn a new trick guaranteed to get your toddler to eat something other than goldfish crackers. Why have you never thought to put peanut butter on celery stalks before? It's going to work, you just know it.

2. But then you try to temper your expectations.

3. You introduce your child to the food, acting nonchalant and hoping that if you don't act nervous, they won't realize the food is new. Just be cool!

4. You hold your breath. You silently beg your child to bite, chew, and swallow without gagging.

5. He takes a bite. It's looking good! Try not to act too triumphant lest he thinks he sould get a party at every meal. Thumbs up, buddy, glad you like it.

6. Uh-oh, you've just pointed out that your kid tried something new. He now realizes it's new, and therefore undesirable. Try not to panic -- he smells your fear. You turn to denial. You LOVE that food! You eat it all the time! Of course you do.

7. The food is on the floor. Your toddler glares at you. You glare back. Your toddler declares he's starving, but not for that. You're beginning to lose it.

8. You start to question your existence. Surely feeding your child shouldn't be this hard?

9. Despair sets in.

10. You give up.

11. You remove the offensive food and hope that gummy vitamins will suffice to meet your child's nutritional needs. Remind yourself that someday he will grow out of this phase, and until then, there's help.
