buying a house

How long does it normally take to buy a house? Sam is going to talk to someone about getting pre-approved this month (or so he says) and he mentioned something about moving in a month or two. I think thats a gross under-estimation of how long it will take to find a house and close on it and get everything taken care of. What kind of wait are we looking at? What needs to be done to close on a house?

Depends. We bought a short sale so 6months. However, with a normal house you could move in two months if you found the one you liked in a month.

We already know what we want, where we want to live basically the only things we need is a pre-approval and a down-payment. There is a class up here for down payment assistance tht guarantees up to 4% down for just attending so Sam is looking into that for us, Im hoping this goes by fast, and he does what he says hes going to do. Im so tired of living with other people.

Took us longer to find a house then close on one. We were outbid on 2 before we bought each house we owned. It's a little different state by state; we closed in 6 weeks on each which was fast for our state. I used to work in real estate law firm here and it usually took about 2 months to close.

Buying a house is a different time frame for everyone. It depends on several different factors so just keep that mind. Also, it sounds like you are desperate to buy a house to get out of your current living situtaion, which could lead to hasty choices. Buying a house is a huge step, do not settle for the first one you see just because you're excited. There are also home inspections that need to be done in some states. It may not be required where you are, but you should still have one done.

We had a 30 day close. We were approved early apr and moved in mid june. Would have been sooner (late may) but we walked from our first contract and started looking again. It didn't take long at all.
