Don't cry son, it's not manly

The other day at a family reunion I heard a cousin tell his son not to cry as he was acting like a baby. In the past I've heard men say that crying boys are sissies.

Anyone else ever heard this?

I don't mind if my DS cries. I think it's good to release his emotions.

I don't care if my boys cry. My brother told his son to never cry.

My DH was told by his dad not to cry as it wasn't manly, he never ever cried! I'd been with him 7 years before I saw him cry but he has a few times since then in 2009. I would never do that to my DS. Everyone needs a good cry every once in a while!

If he cries because he isn't getting his way I tell him to knock it off but when some kid hurt his feelings and was being mean I didn't mind or when he fell and busted his lip. Crying in and of itself is actually good for you but I don't like when they try and use it to manipulate a situation.

The only time I can't stand it is when my boys are whining or crying cause they didn't get what they wanted.

If he's crying because he's genuinely hurt or has suffered a loss then of course I don't mind. If he's crying because he didn't get his way I tell him to man up and deal with it.

DS can cry but he is a drama king so he makes a big show out of it. I have told him to stop crying but only because he was faking.

Crying has always been a sign you are alive.

At birth they want you to cry and express life.
I think it is silly that people tell boys not to cry, seriously because they have a penis they should lack emotion lol

I feel like its good to let kids get their emotions out. Trapping it all in doesn't make them not feel it, it just hides it and turns into aggression or frustration, or makes them turn inward.

Ugh, my dad has that attitude.  I don't mind if my boys cry.  Of course, I also don't mind that my 7 yr. old DS has painted fingernails right now.
