My name is jamie and I am new here. I am really worried about my DS age 9. For a couple of years he has been complaining about non-specific stomach pain. We finally got an appt with a ped. Gastr specialist next week. he had blood work done and the only problem was and elevated sed. rate. i have looked on line only to find  I have more questions than answers. I am waiting for a call from our Ped. and hope to get some advice for our sit. and to calm my nerves. has anyone had this problem and do yo u have any advice for me. I want him to feel better. He has progressively gotten worse over the last several months. now he can't seem to make it through the school day. i don't want him to miss anything but i don't know how "sick"  he is either. I am soo confused as to how to handle this situation . what should i tell him about school? Should I let him come home when he calls me? i don't want to find out later he is seriously ill and i refused to let him come home. or the converse of that. KWIM? I need advice...please let me know if you have dealt with a similar situation or have any advice.

Thanks ladies!

my friend has a son that has stomach "migraines" that got worse as time went on.  i think he has outgrown it.  but it was a very serious problem.  i know it sounds crazy but it is a real diagnosis.  also, my son is having stomach problems and is being tested for "celiac disease" which is not life threatening but may have to be put on a gluten free diet.  maybe ask your drs about those 2 things.

My daughter has had this same problem for years now. She has been thru more tests then I can count. ! thing we did find out was that she has a lactose interance (sorry about spelling). All the test were normal, they say she most likely has a spartic colon.  Never heard of stomach miragaines. Gonna look that up. Good Luck

Do you think that maybe he does have stomach problems, but not as much as he claims? Maybe he has learned that he can use that as an excuse to get outta school. My lil brother was a sneaky one too. He always said he had a headache, and of course my mom didn't want to send him to school with a headache. She would let him stay home and he would be perfectly fine. So, does your son act fine when you get him home? If he still has stomach pains, then maybe he isn't faking it. But if he does get better as soon as he gets home maybe there's something or someone that he doesn't like at school!

thanks for the reply! I do know that it doesn't get better when he gets home. i talked with our ped. and she said she thinks he has some kind of autoimmune disease. We are now going to have to see the gastroenterologist and a rheumatologist to find out which one. She suggested that we take him out of school whenever he needs to until we figure out how to help him. Thanks for listening and for the advice.

Hi there. If its been going on for a few years, I would have him checked by a few drs and then decide. In not know ing him, I also want to say children are smart and they learn fast what works. Not saying thats it, but we KNOW our children and if you feel hes really sick then yeah keep him home, or if its become a way to get what he wants, then no. But I base those things on the child.
But either way good luck, and I would  have him see a specialist in this area and follow up, and make sure hes ok.
