The answer is 4/9, I've got the answer book.  But how do I do the 2ab? I can't remember from high school!

a = 1/2    b = 1/6

I think they may be expecting you to use algebra.

(a + b)(a + b) = a.a + a.b + b.a + b.b

So you can get the answer by doing (1/2 + 1/6) and then squaring it.

If you convert 1/2 into sixths, you get 3/6, so that's  3/6 + 1/6 = 4/6 (which is the same as 2/3)

2/3 squared = (2 x 2) / (3 x 3) = 4 / 9
