For Your Education:

Scarlet Fever, or scarlatina, is an illness that brings on a rash covering most of the body, a strawberry-like appearance of the tongue and usually a high fever.

The most common source of scarlet fever is one form of a common bacterial infection known as Strep Throat.

Therefore, a sore throat and other signs and symptoms of a typical strep throat infection almost always accompany scarlet fever.

Infrequent sources of scarlet fever are related bacterial infections affecting other organ systems.

Scarlet fever rarely affects people older than 18 and is most common in children 5 to 15 years of age.

Although scarlet fever was once considered a serious childhood illness,
antibiotic treatments have made it less threatening.

that sucks!! Hope he gets better!

Be grateful that it's in this day and age with medicines for it rather than in the pioneer times when they had nothing.

I agree..

My son has all his vaccines,
I thought they protected against scarlet fever?
Anyway the Dr. said that this starts from Strep throat.

My 5 year old had scarlet fever with strep throat.

He complained of his throat hurting (I figured it was from yelling during a fit), next day throat still hurts and he's sent home early from school with a fever.  He has the fever for 3 days (first day was the day he came home early), and a sore throat.  I make an appointment for him on the 3rd day of fever and that same day I notice he has a rash on his neck, back, tummy, and chest.

Get him to the doctor and he asks me what the symptoms are and I tell him sore throat, 3 day fever, and now a rash.   He looks in his mouth, looks at his tummy and back.  Says that's strep throat accompanied by scarlet fever.

Did eat or go to school for a week.

Antibiotics fixed him.
