Toddler's weight

There maybe a group that covers this topic, I'm new so I haven't looked to much yet.

My daughter is below the weight chart.  She has gained pretty steady, eats quite a bit and often, but she is slim.  She is very active, starts around 7 a.m. and doesn't slow down much until 9 p.m.

Her dr. says she is ok, but there is a nurse in that office that says there is something wrong, and even asked if I fed her (Hmph!).

So, she is scheduled to go to Children's Hospital in April to be seen by and Endroncronologist (sp???)

I feel she is the "normal" weight for her, but I keep wondering....

Does anyone else have/had a child that was considered below normal?

I have some friends, and they are both over 6 foot tall, their daughter is that tall, and her husband too.  So their son is above the height chart, and the drs. in that situation are telling them that he is too tall!

I'm just not quite sure I fully agree with the charts, especially when the dr. didn't even look at my daughter, only the chart.

Any input would help.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.  Usually the doctors have to sign for you to see specialists, but it isn't going to hurt.   I would be upest with the nurse......that's very inappropriate!

My daughter is 21 mos. and she weighs 22 lbs. approx.  It's been 2 wks. since her last weight check.

She is so active.  And seems to be advancing in all other areas.  She even grew 1 1/2 inches in less than amonth.

I was a skinny kid, healthy as a horse and never had weight problems.I just felt lucky and said I had a fast metabolism rate. Now I'm middleaged, aout 15 lb. overweight. I'm not too worried. If your child is eating regularly don't worry about it. I'd be afraid of messing with her metabolism now, it might lead to problems later.

My baby girl is 26 months old and she only weighs 21 lbs.  I am not concerned about her; our doc says that everything is fine.  She is very active; healthy and right on task with what toddlers should be doing.  She was born at 8 lbs 4 oz and at her two month check up she started to fall down the chart.  She is just going to be a petite thing.  Our doctor said that our baby has always been in the low percentile and is just gonna be petite.  I would think that you would need to worry if your daughter is all of a sudden making a dramatic drop in her weight.  Has she always been kinda low on the charts?  Anyway just wanted to let you know you are not the only mom with a petite girl. If ya ever wanna chat just drop me a line.

Hi farmgirl,

I don't know if I totally believe those charts either.  I guess the specialist will give you more info.

You may want to try asking this question on the Toddler Moms group.  They may have some good feedback to share with you.

I hope you have a great day!

i have a child that is the same way My daughter is  23 months and she only weighs 21 lbs and is only 29 inches tall her doctor says she is by far not AVERAGE but it is common, considering she only weighed 6 lbs when she was born. When she was about 6 months she had only gained 3 lbs. I was worried if she had some kind-of dwarfism but he did x-rays and told us that her bones were developing normally and she would start to put on weight soon.

my daughter is so underweight they have under failure to thrive. She seems healthy to me and she eats. She is also very active and mentally ahead of most toddlers her age. So I really don't get to concerned over it. She went to a GI specialist who did all kinds of test that all came back normal and she sees a nutrionist regulary who put her on a soy pediasure (she's also allegic to milk). Thats not even making her gain weight... so I would say don't worry about it. The next thing she goes for is to make sure she doesn't have dwarfism. URGH the tests do get annoying but it's better safe than sorry :)

I wouldn't worry too much about it.  All of my kids' weight varied.  My oldest was only six lbs when he was born and within two months weighed close to twenty.  My second was nine lbs when born and has always been skin and bones....but he eats like he has a tapeworm!lol  Alot of times I have found that doctors will send kids to specialists and stuff just to be on the safe side.  Even when I was pregnant with my second one that happened.  They saw something irregular on the sonogram and sent me to Galveston to have another sonogram there.  Turns out, he just had a big head!lol

Everything will be'll see.  And yeah...I would be concerned with that nurse.  Every office has to have a nurse like that, huh?  It gives the good nurses a bad name!
