My husband moved out and I took the rest of his things to where he's staying today and he wont speak to me at all and he still has the house key. Can I call the cops and tell them where he's staying and have them get it for me or do I just have to wait for him to return it or change the locks?

Screw him, change the locks and don't say a word.

the police are not going to get involved in a domestic dispute.  change your locks.

They just put a new door on and there's no way I can remove the deadbolt and that's the only way to lock the door. I'm afraid to leave cos I dont want him to come and mess with my stuff. The landlord said that since he moved out and all his stuff is gone that he no longer has any rights to the place and I'm waitin on them to write up a lease for me to sign

Sorry you are going through this. If it were me I would definitely change the locks.

Besides the dead bolt dont you have a door handle lock? If not I would just go to home depot and buy one and do it myself. Its not that hard. Just need a screw driver..

It depends on the State you live in. Call an atty right away and do things the 'right' way. I know it's very tempting to just say to hell with him and change the locks, but that could get you in hot water in some states.  Treat carefully so you come out ahead in the end. Good luck!
