Hi, I just had my second daughter last wendsday, and at her first check up, the dr said she thinks she has congenital hip dysplasia, and she did an x-ray to confirm it. We have an appointment with a specialist tomorrow, but I was wondering if any of you have children with this, and how the outcome was. My husband and I are kind of freaking out, and I was looking for some reasuring words. thanks..

My cousin had it when he was born.  He had surgery and I remember him being in a cast from the waist down when he was about a year old.  I used to laugh at him when he tried to walk because of the cast it looked funny (I was only 5).  But he is perfectly fine now.

my husband has this. he never had any corrective surgeries for it, so he walks with a slight limp but it really doesnt cause him any problems. it aches when it's cold or rainy out, but he skateboards, rides bmx, does all kinds of crazy shit. he put off the surgery when he was younger because he didnt want to be in a wheelchair during recovery, and of course now looking back, wishes he would have just took care of it then.
