hello i am about three weeks postpartum and i was wonderingwhich birthconrtol to use... the UID or the implant in your arm or the depo shot?
i want something long term and that i dont have to remember everyday. But in my research i have found that...the depo shot messes with the bone dencity, the arm one can cause nerve damage or implant itself in you, and the uid can come out or implant itself in you and you have to ' check on it' for the first three months after getting it....
what do you think....what are your experiances?
I have the iud and i love it. I know that some obgyns will not do the implant due to the risk is muscle damage, infection (it is an open wound) and rejection is actually quite common. Just like a piercing your body can reject it and push it and it leaves a scar.
Because i love my little girl
Because yes i am Bipolar
Because Trisomy 18 Has affected my life
For my grandfather (lung cancer)
for my mother in law
For my aunt
Pink and Blue because infants deserve to be remembered too
WHAT COLORS ARE IN YOUR LIFE?
I had an IUD and I had a horrible experience with it. It ended up causing me to have a LOT of problems. Its not a bad method for everyone, but I believe the numbers of those who experience negative side effects to be considerably greater than what the IUD manufacturers list in their information. I would exercise caution with the IUD and look at all of the potential negatives. Decide whether or not you are willing to accept the possibility of it becoming embedded in, or perforating your uterus and potentially losing your ability to have future children because it is possible.
There are risks with any form of birth control, but you should really exercise caution when you are looking at putting a foreign body into your body whether it is a copper non-hormonal iud, a plastic iud with hormone coil, a hormonal implant in your arm, etc. Not everyone's body will react the same way. I would just urge you to consider the possibility of having one of the more severe reactions. If you can deal with that potential set of issues then go for it.

From what I understand, all hormonal forms of bc decrease bone density, so I don't think that should impact your choice.
Also all forms of hormonal bc have several ways they work. 1. They try and prevent ovulation (the mini pill only prevents it in 50% of your cycles), 2. They change the cervical mucous to try and prevent sperm from entering. 3. They change the lining of the uterus such that a fertilized egg cannot implant.
The IUD only works by preventing a fertilized egg from implanting (unless it is a hormonal IUD and then it does all of the above.)
I did not realize #3 was the case. I believe in life at conception, so that made the choice for me. I am not saying you have to choose my way, just wanted to let you know what noone ever told me.
i have the implant. and so far love it.. ive had it since november and at first i had reallly bad mood swings.. i felt bipolar.. but i think its starting to steady out
depo.. i wouldnt do.. i was on it after my first.. my doctor didnt even reccomend it
and as for the iud.. id be weirded out by it.. i dont know just not for me
Like others have said, it's really varies with each person, but I have had the Mirena implant in for almost 2 years now and I love it. It lasts for 5 yrs, has vastly helped my migraines, no periods and I don't have to even think about BC. Insurance payed for it. It hurt a little bit and I cramped for a couple of days. I spotted for a few months, but that never bothered me. It drives some people crazy. For more info: www.mirena-us.com
