I am taking my hubby to Vegas for his 30th Birthday in March. I have never been there and just want some help from those of you who have.

What was the best part of your trip and what was one thing you wish you would not have wasted your money on.

Thanks!!!

***Edit---- how much money would any average person take with them....

I wasn't very brave, tried a couple slot machines. I think Vegas is for people that are adventurous and perky. Stay away from the free drinks ~ you might gamble more than you planned.

DO NOT stay at the luxor hotel (the big pyramid one). i've stayed in a motel 6 that was nicer than that! but i've heard mandalay bay is pretty good, i wish i would've stayed there.

as far as what to do, take in a couple of shows. we saw blue man group and carrot top, it was a blast. and in every hotel/casino, there's walk-up daiquari/margarita bars...HIGHLY recommended. we went to 4 or 5 of them and got the biggest size there, walked around the rest of the hotels and shops just sipping on daiquaris. it was great lol.

if you want a really good meal, i suggest the tender steakhouse. it's in the luxor (unfortunately), and it is on the pricey side, but it's amazing. i had quail with dumplings and a mustard sauce..it was fantastic!

I loved the slots and the shopping! We took my parents out to eat at the RIO for their buffet. After all was said and done, for 4 of us to eat, it was $145. No buffet is worth that.

You have to go to the shows!  Cirque is doing the Beatles right now.  Enjoy the nightlife.

We stayed at the Stratosphere. It was nice and we got free tickets to go up to the top. The little diner in there was neat. I was amused with the root beer float glasses in the shape of the hotel lol. Still have it.

The one thing I didn't like was the wax museum.  We actually got free tickets to that too and I'm glad we did. If I had paid for the tickets I would have been pretty disappointed.

hmm i actually liked the wax museum. we went in the little "scream" horror movie exhibit, it was freaky. the only part of the wax museum i didn't like was when my hubby started drooling and groping the jenna jameson statue

Stay off strip. Try one of the Station casinos.

My 2 girlfriends and I went to Vegas w/o hubbies or kids (our first trip like that ever, my oldest is 9) We stayed at Harrah's. It was a dump but all we needed was a place to sleep and shower plus the price was right. We didn't do any nightlife (STILL can't believe it) but still had a blast. We spent a lot of time at the pool burning, did a little gambling (lost about $300) and did a lot of walking. The wax museum was a blast, I have so many pix of us posing with the statues, I highly suggest you watch the Belagio water shows. They are amazing with a different one every hour. Go downtown on the bus (The Deuce) which is only $5 for a 24 hour pass to Freemont street. The ceiling over the street is a big screen where there are shows too. I wish we had more time to see shows but most we wanted to see were $80 and up per person. Don't waste your time on the Pirate show at Treasure Island, though unless you want to see a sex show that used to be a pirate show. We were disappointed at that one. Have fun!!!

I stayed at the stratosphere and it was nice. The breakfast buffet was good and was decent priced. I would definitely recommend taking in a couple of shows. The blue man group was good. Also you can watch the lil show thats put on outside of Treasure Island hotel.  its free and they do it every so often there are signs up so you can read what times are.I forgot what it is called but it was pretty cool. The mirage has a volcano that erupts every so often also.  Definitely stop and take in the bellagios water show. Thats one of my favorite spots in Las Vegas. All the shows minus the blue man group that i have mentioned are free outside shows. I would recommend a margarita by the yard from La Salsa Cantina. its by the m&m store. It was delicious....I hope you have a great trip. I have been to vegas three times and loved it every time...
