Early detection pregnacy tests?

Ok, I was due to start my period on the 3rd.  I am never late, and my hubby and I have been trying to have anther baby.  When I got pregnant with my son I took one of the first response test the day of my missed period, and it came back positive.  Well I have taken two this time, and both say neg.  But I am sick in the morning and my breasts are so sore, and I have mild cramping and a clearish white discharge.  So is there anyway that I could still be pregnant?  Maybe the test just can't tell yet?  Has anyone else had this problem?
