Why is lunch meat bad when pregnant!

I crave turkey sandwhiches and I just learned that it is bad for you when pregnant I ate it a lot with my son and now I feel bad!

It is way over processed.  Most containing high nitrates.

 i worked in a deli when i was pregnany and ate it all the time with no problems

Probably the high sodium content and sulfites/preservatives.

I could be wrong, but I believe it's because of the sodium nitrate. It's also in hot dogs. Sodium nitrate isn't good for anyone, pregnant or not.

i am prego as well and i just heard about this. but with my first son i ate it as well and i still do with this one. i heard that as long as its heated up/cooked. i go to subway and just have them toast it. thats all i crave right now

Because it can give you listeria which is like a form of food poisoning from what I have read and when your not pregnant you may have stomach upset and such but it is fatal for the fetus.

This is what the doctor told me. However I ate it a few times during pregnancy.. My doctor also said its OK if you heat it up but most people dont like hot cold cuts.. im not sure if its even true.

This is why I was told not to eat it. But if you have it toasted, it should keep the listeria out of it.
