My SIL has been dancing since she was 4 years old. She's 21 now and teaches dance to younger girls and she was showing me videos on youtube of groups that she thinks are really talented. She showed me this one and I almost sh** a brick. I couldn't believe that parents or dance instructors would ever teach dance like that to 13 and 14 year old girls..some maybe even younger!!! I mean even the words to the song are very suggestive. My SIL just laughed and said "Oh its just dancing..they've very talented. If you don't look at it that way, you can appreciate the talent they have." Yeah okay..kinda hard NOT to look at it that way. There are freakin grown men out in the audience watching these young girls dance like this. When she left she seemed all offended and upset with me. Is it just me, or is this sick?!

A lot of you are saying the dancing is fine, but the costumes and song are the bad part. I guess I wasn't specific enough. The outfits (or lack there of) and the song is mainly what I was talking about. The lyrics to the song are VERY sexual. Its talking about taking their clothes off and the outfits are terrible. A lot of the dancing is normal dancing, but it looks WAY worse considering they're wearing almost nothing. If they were covered up more, it wouldn't look nearly as bad. They might as well just be in underwear and bras. And yes, some of the dance moves (not all) are way out there. Like another mom said..she quoted some specific times in the dance, like at 2:06..showing a girl thrusting her hips around and how they bend over and pop their butts out. They are talented yes, but the outfits and the lyrics to the song are just disgusting!

Girls can still show their talent without being slutty!

IMO your SIL is their instructor, so she can choose what music the girls dance to, how they dance, and what outfits they wear, no???

Thanks for reminding me why I've always hated the competition circuit (I used to dance professionally with a modern dance company).  It's full of tricks, and more tricks, and a severe lack of depth and artistry.  I taught for over 10 years, and I personally never would've picked that song in the first place, because I think it's completely inappropriate.  It kills me...

I wish there was a "forehead slap head shake sweetpea, but this will do.

I opened this, expecting it to be far worse that it really is. Girls dance worse than that at middle school and high school dances. I think you are overreacting.

I don't have any speakers so I can't hear the song, but I don't think the dance is appropriate for young girls.

Okay yeah that is totally inappropriate for teen girls. If I was a mom of one of those girls I would hve KILLED the dance instructor.

Of course those girls are DEFINITELY talented but that song as well as some of the movements were unnecessary in regards to the music. If it was a different song I would have no issue. I know when I was dancing I would NOT do a certain dance (because of the dance/song content) because I knew my mom would freak out.

Dance is art but seriously it doesn't need to cause someone to feel uncomfortable.

Lol.  Other than the suggestive song I can't see anything wrong with it.  Their dance was very tame by today's standards.

You should see how kids dance now.  It's like they're having sex with their clothes on.

I have to agree with a PP.  I mean it is a bit suggestive, but girls dance worse than that at school dances and formals.  I have to say they are very talented and will have bright futures as dancers.  I think you are overreacting a little bit.

LOL seriously? Yeah maybe girls dance like that at school dances, but at least their parents and instructors aren't picking out skimpy outfits and planning the dances out. These dances are chosen by adults! Didn't you see the way the girls were spreading their legs way up in the air with their crotches facing the audience and how the song was singing about a man taking his clothes off nice and slow but leaving his hat on? Yikes!

I don't necessarily think the dance moves by themselves are inappropriate, but I DO think the choreography and song choice is too mature for 13-14 y/o girls.

Those girls ARE talented, but I think their talent could be shown off just as easily with a less suggestive music choice.

I see nothing wrong with it... those girls have a future at the NYC Ballet company if they want it! There was nothing in that dance that you wouldn't see by PROFESSIONAL dancers on a Broadway stage. The music was a bit over the top, but the dance not so much.
