Does anyone honestly think joining the military is a waste of a life????? Personaly i just don't get it. If no one was in the militarty there would be no one to defend us and we americans would easily be wiped out!

FOR THOSE THAT DON'T GET IT I DO NOT THINK THAT THE MILITARY IS A WASTE OF A LIFE. I THINK IT IS BENIFICAL TO SOMEONE AND TO OUR ENTIRE NATION. I THINK THEY SHOULD GET HIGHER PAY, AND ALL IN ALL BE TREATED BETTER THEN WHAT THEY ARE BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY DO! MY BROTHER WAS A NAVY SEABEE AND IF MY SON EVER JOINS I WILL BE THE PROUDIST MOTHER IN THE WORLD.

as an army wife, i don't think joining the military is a waste. my husband is my hero, i am SO proud of him and honored to be his wife. the men and women of the military, whether it's army, navy, marines, air force, coast guard, whatever...they are our nation's heros. they defend our country, our lives, our children. they risk their lives for us. now if that's a waste, then i don't know what else to say.

    Exactly this!!!

  • Yes the military is a waste of life...I gotten to travel the world and experience different cultures, spend 10 years in Germany, a year in Korea, my dad fought in two wars, but brother had been deployed three times, my husband twice with many more to come all in the name of freedom and justice for all,  I had indescribable pride in all of the men in my family whom some have captured terrorists, saved life's and done humanitarian work all over the world.....such a waste.

  • I don't think it is a waste of time.....I'm a proud Marine MOM!  I'm proud of my son who decided to join to defend us, and our country.....I respect his wishes, even though I miss him terribly.....I think any one who wants to join the military is a hero....LIKE you said, if it wasn't for us...we wouldn't be here today.....

  • Not in my opinion but I have a fairly firm grasp of military history and military service.  I was in the Navy and DH is National Guard, currently deployed.  I think being a drunken homeless pan handler is a waste of a life.  It is kind of amazing to me how ignorant some people who profess hate of the military are about the military and history.  You can't really have a decent back and forth with someone who says they disagree with the Army and can't give you one specific thing they disagree about except the war in Iraq.

I think it should be a personal choice and some of you will say well it is, but that's not always the case. I think they promote it too much and almost pressure people into it. I still have recutiers calling me asking me if I want to join. They even called while I was pregnant. I always tell them no, they continue to ask if my fiancee wants to join, I just hang up by that point. I don't think they should have recuiteirs at all, people know the army is there, they will join if they want to.

  •  no its not a waste..you can make a great career out of it and if you stay in long enough, you get better training and education than what college can offer you.

  • My son is limbo right now at a bootcamp where he was severely injured during training so YES it is a fracking waste!!!!!!! Still don't know what the frack is gonna happen to his life and he's been there for fracking months! Rapists and murderers in a federal prison have it better than he does right now! MFer's can't even get his fracking mail to him!

I dnt think it's a waste of life.  I think if that's what a person wants to do, then by all means they should get ALL the honest facts and then make their decision from there, just as those do when they apply to colleges for a certain major.  I think that a career choice should be a personal one.  But what I dnt agree with is that we are supposed to put ppl on a pedalstal for making that choice.  I think EVERY job that is done in this country, is to help this country, from McDonald's to making cars to the military...all careers and ppl are treated the same by me.

I totally agree! People in the miliary shouldn't be treated any different than people that go to work everyday and help out the country at home. If it wasn't for us over here doing what we do everyday, there would be no need for the army. We are all people just the same no matter what we choose to do for work.
