Air conditioning for Super Broke people?

So it was super hot and I broke in and turned on the A/C. Can you guess on which day? I was FLABBERGASTED to see how much energy and money it costs for just ONE day!

Anyone else going to sweat it out this summer? I just can't afford $4 a day.

This is my energy use this month so far

My air is on when the temps hit the 90 degree mark. My ComEd bill usually goes from $56/month to about $95/month during the summer.  I cannot stand a hot and humid house, so I will keep it on when I need to.

The heat is far more costly than the air. Unfortunately the heat stays on longer than the ac during the year.

i only turn my air on when its over 85 degrees outside but yeah i'll use it then lol.  i hate baking in my own house lol.

what i used to do before i had air was make sure that the days that were supposed to be real hot were the days i took the kids for road trips in the air conditioned car lol.  cuz it would get like an oven in my old apartment.

but $4 a day...that's a LOT.

You get the Energy Efficient ones...

then only use it when it's 80 or 82 degrees or higher, but I'm willing to pay for hot days, but I live in a place we only have to use ours like 10 days out of a whole summer. maybe.

I wish I only had to pay 4 dollars a day.  Electric is way to expensive here.

you do know there are programs out there for people who cant afford their electric bill. also you can go on a budget plan with your electric company. call them up and ask it cant hurt. plus $4.00 a day a day is cheap

we have a window unit in the bedroom and living room. it raises our bill about 15 dollars a month. beats burning up!

It is probably more here too but I unplug stuff at night (microwave, tvs, etc) and have energy saver bulbs and find anyway to keep my electric as low as possible.

I can't go without my air! It's been reaching 90 degrees the past couple of days! I leave my air on all the time, and have it set to where it stays 75 degrees in here. I cannot stand being too hot!

We have a heat pump/central A/C. Even when we use it, our elec is still lower in the summer than in the winter.
