my daughter is alittle over 2 months and i swear i think she has sleep apnea.  i went in to check on her this morning before i left for work and of course i look to make sure she is breathing...and her  back wasnt moving.so i put my hand on her back...not moving. i dont hear her.for about 7 sec, nothing...i so i gave her a small nudge and she was like..startled and then went back to sleep and everything was back to normal(and yes she sleep on her belly in her crib because she WONT sleep on her back or side.

a couple weeks ago we went to visit my aunt and uncle and my uncle said somehting about she seemed like she stoped breathing for a min and then started again when she was sleeping( i was out with my aunt when it happened i guess) i ment to ask my pedi about it but forgot.can kids have sleep apnea?? should i go get her checked out?(my cousin had a baby that died of SIDS like 5 years ago...)

EDIT**

HAS ANYONE HAD TO DEAL WITH THIS? IM SO SCARED FOR HER.I CALLED MY PEDI NURSE LINE AND SHE IS GOING TO TALK WITH THE DR AND CALL ME BACK.I HAVE ALWAYS HAD A WEIRD FEELING SINCE I GOT PREGO THAT I WASNT GOING TO BE ABLE TO WATCH HER GROW UP...I DONT KNOW WHY..BUT THIS ISNT HELPING.!

  • you can buy things that can help keep the baby on her back or on her side. I bought them for my daughter. You could try using those until you get her an appointment with her doctor. Good luck and I'd be terrified everytime she fell asleep.

  • it's deadly at any age. i just almost lost my 5 year old to obstructive sleep apnea.

he will be six in august and weighs only 36 lbs.

    he literally... almost died.

you go with o2 for too long... it strains the heart, brain and lungs.

it raises the risk of heart attack, pulmonary arrest, and stroke.

it is responsible for 1/3 of the misdiagnosed cases of adhd in this country

this information comes from mass general for children, mass eye and ear.

world leaders in pediatric medicine... harvard's teaching school.

i brought my child to the biggest children's hospital here in r.i. and was blown off...sent home with a dying child.

you neet to consult with a e.n.t. and DEMAND a sleep study.

do not let them blow you off!!!!!!!!

  • thank you, he is much better now.

mass general took one look at him and wanted to know why i waited until he was so sick.

immediately, a social worker came in. but oncei handed them the 16 developemtnal report i had from the other hospital... making me out to be a paranoid mother, they turned their venom on the other hospital. they couldn't find a release off the bat...so the dr. hand wrote one!

my son also has a defect called " pectus excavatum" this too... was blown off by the other hospital.

this defect can be associated with other conditions...so they had us see a bunch of specialists to rule out anything genetic.

the e.n.t. didn't hesitate at all. my son was waking up blue, only 36 lbs. they immediately removed his tonsils and adenoids.

my son went into surgery blue.... and came out pink.

it's been about one month... he is a different kid! he doesn't snore anymore... he no longer chokes in his sleep.... he doesn't stop breathing anymore either. he is eating better...sleeping better. like a new kid.

sometimes... a machine called a "cpap" is neccessary. that stands for CONSTANT, POSITIVE, AIRWAY PRESSURE.

it is like an o2 machine. only it fluctuates instead of keeping a steady stream.  it does this to keep the air ways open.   the patient wears a mask only while sleeping.

  • im glad he is doing better and you got someone good finally.im waiting to hear back from my friends about the dr she works for.

my daughter doesnt snore at night(or while sleeping anytime) but when she crys she...sounds like she is stuffed up, like she cant breath through her nose and if you look it, her nose holes are very small. i dont notice her being blue when she sleeps...i know there are different kids of apnea,(obstructive, mixed(i think) and infant) wondering if she has infant.i dont know.i was just freaked out by it this morning.ive been so scared i was going to loose her since conception that this isnt helping!

oh and there have been times when ive come into check on her and she wasnt but a few sec later she almost gasps for air and starts again.

and my mamaw had sleep apnea, she she had to use the cpap, i just didnt know if they put those on kids.

  • YES YES YES! Go get her checked! When my oldest was a month old, he was lying next to me on the couch asleep while I was doing laundry, I noticed that he turning red and not breathing, I picked him up, nothing, then he started turning almost blue, I blew in his face and he finally gasped for air. I rushed him to the ER, we were admitted as soon as we got there and he was put on a machine (I call it the SIDS machine but I know that's not the right name for it) it has sticky patches that they put on the baby and every time their heart rate decreases or increases it will beep. His heart rate dropped twice and went up once, we stayed in the hospital for almost 3 days. We came home with the machine and had it for a week. It's something he just grew out of, but we did have to keep a close eye over him. Good luck, but really, go get it checked out.
