I have been staying at home for over a year now, which is awesome. I love my kids (6 year old and 6 month old). I just really want to work.
I went to school for 4 years to get my B.S. in Nursing. After graduation, I had to work part time as a barista while I got my application together, then I studied my ass of to take the board exam. Well after I passed, I found out I was pregnant! I applied for jobs until my 4th month into pregnancy...then DH and I decided I should just wait until our baby was born. No one was calling me for interviews anyways.
After our son was born, I began applying again. I have been submitting applications via fax, email, online, snail mail, in person for the past 6 months. I try to apply to at least 5 a night online when everyone is in bed. Fixing up my resume, typing out applications, writing out cover letters....EVERY NIGHT.
No one has EVER called me for an interview. I've gotten a few of the automated rejection emails. I just wish someone would call me. I would much rather be called in for an interview and not get the job, because at least I would feel like they at least CONSIDERED me worthy of the position.
I don't NEED the job to survive, we are doing great because of my hard working ass bustin husband. But if I had a job we could start savings accounts for the kids. DH can work on building his career (he doesn't consider his job right now as his career yet) and I can start mine.
This is like the ultimate rejection. I feel like trash that nobody wants. It sucks so much, I worked so hard and nothing is coming from it.
I got a call on Monday from an immunization clinic and they hired me over the phone! It's only from September-December (flu shot season), but it's something that can go on my resume, as experience and we will have extra money for my eldest son's birthday and Christmas! So I am excited.
Congrats!! my son is 8 months old and i'm getting antsy to get outta the house except i never even finished school..so i wanna start finishing school (lol sorry i started rambling) but CONGRATS MAMA =)

Have you had anyone proofread/critique your resume and cover letters? I think a lot of times when you're not even getting a call and you've applied for tons of jobs, maybe there's something unappealing about your first impression. I'd be happy to look at them for you if you want.
That is great news!!!!! Enough people were praying for you, I think. Congratulations!

Sure I'd love an opinion on my resume/cover letters. I never know what write on the cover letters!

I didn't read thru all of the replies, but don't count on someone calling you. Be aggressive and call them to set stuff up. I saw your update and that is great. It's also easier to get employed while you have a job. And, when you start that will get your foot in the door again and maybe make some contacts. One other thing, on resumes now, you shouldn't write an objective, employers tend to toss those resumes from what has been seen on CNN, Good Morning America etc. I didn't realize so much has changed. If you have any gaps in your employment, make sure you account for them somehow as well.
I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I graduated in 2006 with my B.S. and a teaching certificate, took time off to stay at home with my first and now I'm having trouble getting anyone to call me. It's not so much the staying at home but that you accomplished something really great (graduating) and having nothing to show for it. I applied for 6 positions and got one interview(didn't get it). I just applied for a job as a Head Start teacher today. I really hope I get an interview!
Congratulations on the job. Sounds like you are off to a good start .
Here is a search engine for those still looking .... www.indeed.com
Congratulations. That is a great step in the right direction. Might help you get your foot in the door where other job options will open up for you. It will also be nice to have that extra money. :)
