Contractions or not?

I have been having tightness in my upper stomach for the last 3 hours.  I have not timed them but they dont seem to be getting any stronger.  I have been in and out of L&D for the last week and 2 days ago i was dialated to a 3 and 50% effaced -1 station.  I am only 35 weeks 4 days and I know they will do nothing to stop it if i go in so I think i am just going to wait it out.

My question is this, Has anyone had labor that starts with just tightness or contractions in the top of your stomach before they turned into full contractions?

im having every damn contraction in the book... so yes, I have had a couple of those... its your body pushing your baby into position... but im pretty sure it doesnt mean much of anything right now... unless they get stronger or closer its just your body getting ready. =D Yey for contractions... *rolls eyes*

I have 3 kids..  but have had only 2 labors.... well 4 because I had preterm with 2 which was stopped.

With all of them I only had tightness...  I didn't experience any pain until I was 8cm.

What let me know it was labor was I had some bleeding...  just some bright red blood when I wiped.  Nothing much...  but I knew my cervix was dilating from that and that it was labor.

I had preterm labor with my son at 32 weeks and had some blood which made me go to the hospital. i got there and they didn't believe me, until they checked. Then I was 4 cm.  when I had him at 38 weeks it was just some blood again. I got there and yet again they did not believe me, I was 6cm.

With my middle daughter, I had some bleeding. I went... they didn't believe me (diff hospital... diff state)  they checked and I was 4cm. They were going to send me home.  I asked to walk (didn't want to come back in an hour) and after 30 mins... no pains but was 6 cm dilated...  my dd was born 40 mins later.

With my 3rd (dd)... I had preterm labor at 30 weeks... just bleeding. I went in and was 4cm.  They stopped it....  but I delivered her at 35 weeks by emergency c-section due to botched amnio

what i do when i'm not sure (because i have a really hard time knowing when my contractions are "real") is i just start timing them... i go to contractionmaster.com and see if the pain is about a minute long and 7 or less min. apart consistantly ...

good luck

I've been having braxton hicks for weeks now. At this point I wish they were the real thing cause it's getting annoying lol.

This is a good idea.  After i get the kids to bed i will sit down and time them.  I will keep you all posted, thanks ladies!

lol yeah it's how i figured out i was in labor with my last son... and actually they almost sent me home because they weren't registering much at the hospital lol - i was set to induce the next morning though so they let me stay... good thing too cause i had him 2 hours after they wanted to send me home! now i'm just waiting for my "contractions" or something to happen now... i'm over 39 weeks and this kid is showing no signs of coming out EVER :( i'm so miserable
