How much would you spend for a baby shower gift? For a kind of close friend. And what would you get her? We went to high school with them still talk everyonce in a while. We used to hang out a lot in high school but when I got pregnant I became the "mommy with no life" because my son was my life. :)

And what are some things you would buy? She has thermometers, boppy pillow and slip cover, stuffed animals, soft shoes, blankets, bottles, bath tub, sleep positioner, diaper changer, shopping cart cover, dreft, socks, burp cloths, and blankets.

Some things I didnt see on there that I know she'll probably need are bibs, a sling, gowns, sleepers, onsies,

I just registered for my shower and I found that Target has a lot of things that are useful that I didnt even know I needed. Try teething rings, you can never have enough bottles, a dishwasher rack for bottles and nipples, some clothes, a pacifier. Try looking online at target.com you might find stuff there that isnt really expensive

I would get her something from her list but also get her something that you know she will need thats not on her list.

or... maybe something sentimental, like a hand/footprint kit or something!

How about a really nice picture frame/album that she can put the baby's pictures in? Also, if you wanted to, you could maybe get her a gift certificate to get a pregnancy massage, or a massage after the baby's born.

Well I guess it depends.  I recently bought a good friend her stroller... but have bought other friends simple things like diapers and blankets.

I bought the stroller because I knew she would need it and it wasnt likely anyone else in our group of friends would get it.  So we had some extra cash and we did.

I always think diapers and wipes are an awesome gift.. doesnt seem flashy but sooo helpful! And I usually will pick out a cute outfit but one thats not the 0-6 months.. it seems like everyone buys the smaller sizes.  When we had our twins we got all clothing from 0-6 months and nothing more then that... so we had sooo many outfits they never wore... they were soo tiny and now we have none...lol

I threw my best friend a baby shower when I was a senior in HS (she was a year older then me) and I bought her a baby tub and filled it with stuff.  Some clothes, safety stuff, socks, bibs, blankets, a couple BFing items, baby shampoo, body wash and lotion, nail clippers, wipes are also a good investment and diapers (size 1), bottles, paci's, ummm  yeah thats what I did anyway lol

I almost alwyays buy the Boppy, a cover, some safety stuff and a cute outfit.  Or the boppy and the "what to expect the first year" book. Those are my two stand-by gifts and I usually try to keep it around $50

I am a Pastor and we have just had three new babies in our church and are expecting a fourth. We advise people not to drink the water at our church...lol. My vote is to get her something that is either a medium to large gift because the truth is you actually spend less than you would trying to get a whole bunch of "little" but expensive items. The other idea is the ever popular "gift card" to let her select what she wants.

Something to remember is this. It seems at showers people always try to outdo the other "gift givers" and they miss the entire point of the shower. The point is that everyone brings one gift and the new mom or bride then has the necessary supplies she needs. I would stay within my personal budget and remember to write a card with tons of encouragement which is what she needs most.
