or something of the equivalent.
Last night was a busy night. Originally, the weather said it would rain today, so, we decided to go ahead and cook out last night. By the time we cooked, ate and I cleaned up, it was getting late. About an hour past the girls' typical bath time. So, we go upstairs, run the bath water, put them in, and they're playing fine. I take this opportunity to straighten up the bathroom counter (that DH just throws everything on), so,my back is turned to them. Suddenly, my 2 year old screams out in pain! I turn around and blood is pouring down her thumb all over her hand. I call DH (who is cleaning the grill), yelling for him to get upstairs. He helped the 5 year old get out. She goes to get dressed while DH and I deal with the youngest. Poor Maddy is so upset, not wanting us to touch her, but, we're trying to get pressure on it to stop the bleeding. She finally calms down, lets DH wrap thick gauze around her thumb and tape it. He told me to go sit with her at the computer to calm her down and get her dressed while he figures out how she got cut.
He comes in the room, I asked what done it...MY razor! The previous night, I shaved and left my razor on the lower bathtub shelf, purely on accident (of course) and was in such a hurry last night, forgot to move it.
After I got Maddy to sleep, I sat at the computer and bawled! I felt so bad! I am the reason my poor baby cut herself. Don't get me wrong, I know they're gonna get hurt, but, to know that it was my mistake that caused her to get hurt, that made me feel like hell.
Please, if you feel the need to bash, take it elsewhere, I feel bad enough as it is and just needed to vent out to someone about it this morning.
It was an accident mama. I know that won't make you stop feeling guilty, but hopefully you won't feel you are a bad mommy. It hasn't happened to my kids, only because I have one of those over the shower head shelves that they can't reach. But when I was little I cut myself with my sister's razor. I was shaving my legs... at 5 years old. LOL.
Oh no, so sorry... It was an accident, one I'm sure you won't let happen again. At least it was just her thumb, and she is okay. One time I was cleaning the bathroom toilet, and my nosey toddler wandered in behind me because I was scrubbing the bowl my back was to him. I was talking to him then all of sudden he starts crying I turn around, and he picked up the bottle of spray cleaner that was set behind me, and sprayed himself in the eyes. So of course I ran him to the tub, and flushed it out with water. I also called the number on the bottle (it was a Clorox something cleaner), and they had a nurse from the company call me back with some questions. He ended up being fine very little got in his eyes, but I did feel terrible, and it never happened again.
yes i have done this... my daughter was about 3 playing the bath and next thing i know she yells at me to come in the bathroom, i had stepped out to get something, i look at her and her mouth is gushing blood! she had sliced her bottom lip on the razor, not bad enough for stitches but it bled pretty good! i felt soooo horrible. the next day she was fine, butneedless to say affter that she never touched another razor again@
My youngest sister(6) is 3 yrs. older than my oldest daughter(3). One time they got in the tub together. Some how they got ahold of a pack of disposables that were in the medacine cabinet on the other side of the bathroom! I was the one to check on them and see them trying to shave with them and shampoo. Well, the shampoo's slippy so of course my sis cut a huge hunk out of her leg when I came in. I'm not good with blood at all so I started picking up the razors and yelling for my step-mom.
When it was all done and over with, my sis had 9 stitches and my daughter(5 now) still will not touch them. She lets me know to move them so she doesn't have to go to the hospital, even if they're out of her reach-she can still see them. Even though it didn't happen to her,She's still scarred.
Don't sweat it. Accidents happen. It could have been worse. Just be thankful it wasn't and try to fix it so there isn't a next time.
I have one of those shower baskets that hang from the shower head pipe. I store my razor and shampoo there b/c, no fail, my kids empty all my shampoo bottles into their bath. I never leave anything down low. My husband also hides his razors.
please dont blame yourself! accidents happen! just be soooo thankful that it was only her finger and not her face or belly. a friend of my mom's had left her razor within reach once and her little 2 1/2 yr old grabbed it and she cut her top lip!! she had to get stitches!! so just be greatful that it was just a little scare! this might help her realize that, mommy's things shouldnt be played with. hope she is doing better!

Owwie. Don't feel bad. My daughter somehow got hold of an empty soda can at her grandma's house, and cut her finger on the opening. Now whenever I see a soda can I cringe.
It happens, just be more careful next time. :]

poor baby, and poor mama! it was an accident, we all have them. my dd has her own bathroom but she climbs into my shower. i have to put it away everytime i get out. i have forgotten and could be typing the same thing. i have had accidents too where it was my fault and i felt horrible!!!
My daughter has done the same...with me in the shower. She reached up and grabbed it. I felt bad too. Don't be so hard on yourself...you both sound like loving parents. THAT'S what matters:)
Right after my second daughter was born, I was staying with my mom for a week. She wanted to help me out after the birth. So my oldest daughter, 2, is taking a bath with my little sister, who is about 7 years old. Well my mom and I are trying to get some things done, going in to check on them, and all the sudden my oldest SHRIEKS! She had reached up and grabbed my mom's razor and cut her finger.
My mom felt horrible! And my daughter wouldn't let us touch it. We cleaned it off and put a bandaid on it and she just kept crying. We ended up taking her to the doctor--LOL, severe overreaction on our part, it was really okay, the doctor laughed at us and gave my girl a pretty bandaid--and my mom wouldn't stop apologizing. She had thought she had put the razor high enough on the shelf where she couldn't reach it.
My daughter was proud of her bandaid. She showed it to EVERYONE and said "I got an owie, wanna see?" LOL! I laugh now that I look back at it, but man it was stressful. I feel ya, momma!
