I was thinking of making this for a bbq tonight. Not sure if it would be good or not. What do you think?

RECIPE INGREDIENTS
1 prepared angel food cake (10 inches)
2 quarts strawberry ice cream, softened
1 quart vanilla ice cream, softened
2 1/2 cups whipping cream
2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
Decorative mini paper flags, optional
Fourth of July Ice Cream Cake Recipe at Cooking.com
DIRECTIONS
Cut cake horizontally into four equal layers. Place bottom layer on a serving plate; spread with half of the strawberry ice cream. Immediately place in freezer. Spread second cake layer with vanilla ice cream; place over strawberry layer in freezer. Spread third cake layer with remaining strawberry ice cream; place over vanilla layer in freezer. Top with remaining cake layer.

In a mixing bowl, beat cream until soft peaks form. Add sugar; beat until stiff peaks form. Frost top and sides of cake. Freeze until serving. Decorate with mini flags if desired.

  • I think the Strawberry Ice Cream will give it flavor. Strawberry usually gives everything flavor.

Thanks ladies, I guess I am just concerned if it would be sweet enough since angel food cake isn't very sweet.

I have to do something good lol. These people love my dessert. Last time I got a trifle dish and two frozen pecan pies. Crumbled up the pie and did a layer of it in the bottom of the dish then did a layer of cool whip squirt fudge and caramel and then conintue layering all the way to the top. Yummy....

  • I was just thinking....  I know we can blurberry ice cream where we live.  You could replace the vanilla with blueberry and have a red, white and "blue" cake.  And the two flavors of ice cream may give it a little more punch?!?!?
