Has anyone's child been diagnosed with this? What was the outcome. I am desperate to find someone who has been through this. Please.
Quoting MommyTo2Boyz:
My youngest had hypotonia in addition to a bunch of other things. He started PT when he was 6 weeks old and was in it until he was 2 1/2. He's a normal active 3 year old now.
Thanks for your reply. If you don't mind, may I ask what the other things were, and how severe the hypotonia was? We will be starting PT and OT soon. Thanks! You can PM me if you want.
Quoting cdgoldilocks:
Hypotonia simply means poor muscle tone. There are many causes.
Your pediatrician needs to refer your child for assessment and physical therapy to teach you exercises to do to increase muscle tone.
Thanks for your reply. I have already been to a geneticist, and am pending a visit to the neurologist. We have an array of genetic tests pending, and will be starting PT/OT soon. We have increased her caloric intake with the recommendation of a dietician, and she seems to be doing a little better.

my youngest has it and all the neurologist said was to keep doing the physical therapy that we already started how old is your child are they like mine where they are 18 months and the only thing they can do is just barely sit up by themself? mine cant walk or crawl and she hates being on her stomach
Mine is almost 7 weeks. She is being tested for SMA, CMT, and Congenital myotonic dystrophy. Her geneticist said she has definitely seen kids with worse hypotonia. She saw a dietician and we increased the caloric content of her feedings, and it has seemed to perk her up a little bit. I keep working with the tummy time, and she is getting better about moving her head from side to side. I just worry that something serious is wrong. I hope you find an answer for why your 18month old is having trouble sitting up. Is your baby feeding okay?
