We were just at a parade for independence day, and we were sitting at some picnic tables with some friends and some friends of friends that i have never met. Well daniel (18 months) walks up to me and says Cracker (his customary word for food or drink) Since he had just devoured a whole hotdog and half of mine, i figured his cup was empty. So i ask him to bring me his cup. He walks off to get it from the stroller where he put it.
One of the women i didn't know looks at me shocked. She then asked me why i wasn't going to breastfeed him, and that it was ok to do, that no one there would be offended....
Um... I don't breastfeed him, i did for a week, and stopped. He has always drank formula or milk or water now that he is older.
She then got so offended and lectured me on how i was such a bad mother for not giving my son the "best". After her little lecture she proceeded to tell me that she still breastfed her four year old and 2 yr old at the same time. She then gathered up her stuff and children and left all pissed off...
I don't think my mouth closed for about five minutes. I was so astounded that a random person whom i had never met before in my life felt the need to do this. Where do people get off?!?! Its my choice whether or not i breastfeed my children. I chose and will choose not to, for various reasons. IF you want to breastfeed your children, great, good for you! it doesn't bother me in the least. the onlly thing that would bother me is if you WEREN"T feeding your kids at all. ya know? It was just baffling to me.

OK coming from an extended breastfeeder, my 20 month old just nursed right before she went down for her nap, What a nutjob! Not that she is still breastfeeding, but if you are telling the story just how it happened, you didn't say she couldn't, you also never told him he couldn't you just asked him to get his cup. My daughter has cups of drinks all the time, especially on such a hot day I make sure to have at least a bottle of water with. Did he come up and say "boob mommy" and then you said "no way that's gross you're way to old for boob ya little sicko." ? No? Then she is a crazy person, good for you that she left
wow....just....wow.
if it were me, i would have said something really smartass-y and left it at that......but that's just me.....
crazies.

What a freak! I understand people being passionate about things, but wow. I breastfeed my 21 month old, but I would never flip a lid like that on someone who doesn't! Geez, my best friend formula feeds, and I don't care! Not my kid, not my issue. I chose to breastfeed, but I totally udnerstand if someone doesn't.
Wow!!! I cant believe she was so worked up over not breastfeeding she left the table. I personally believe that breast milk is the best thing for your baby but don't expect every one I meet to do it too. In my mined if your not giving a baby garbage food your a good mom as formula is still very good. Every one has there own preferences in child raising. There is a in-low in my family that breastfed her boy a 3 years old but that's not the problem as she (with out the mothers knowing and did not have permission) breastfed another family members baby!!!! I had never see this behavior before and was floored. I've never heard of it ether and I asked around. I think I will post it.
