My stepmom has been taking DD out to the pool the past couple days.
Not a big deal,
But she's not putting any sunscreen on her!!! I swear, I am pissed!
I put it on her before she leaves, but it needs to be re applied every hour and a half. I need to get through to this woman! she doesn't understand! She told me "She tans so it's ok"
Nooooooo, it's not. My DD is half Palestinian, so she does have darker skin, but that doesn't mean that she can't get skin damage, can't get skin CANCER!!!!

tsk tsk........Any skin tone can get skin damage. Do you send along sunscreen for her to apply to dd? I hope your LO doesnt get burnt from the lack of protection.

YEah, I do. I make a point to tell her it's there in the diaper bag every time! But she doesn't do it! DD has a nice dark tan now. It looks good, but it's not good for her!!!!
She is not going with my stepmom anymore afte todaY!

older people I guess just don't understand sometimes, because they didn't know about skin cancer back in the day. But seeing as you keep reminding her, you would think she would get it in her head to put lotion on your head.
She's not older though, lol. She is 32 (I am 23)

I put sunscreen on my son like once, before we go out somewhere. He's half Filipino, and as soon as the sun touches his skin, he turns this lovely shade of brown. Honestly, people have lived their entire lives in the sun and not used sunscreen or gotten cancer from it. I wouldn't be too hard on the woman. If she's not doing what you want her to do, don't let her take your daughter to the pool anymore. Or go to the pool with them so you can apply the sunscreen.
My stepkids burn very easily they are pure Irish. Red hair and all, sunscreen has to be applied to them every hour, I try my best, but sometimes even I forget and they burn a bit. It's not the best thing in the world to forget, but honestly, it's not going to kill them and I can guarantee that when the kids get older, they probably won't apply the sunscreen themselves.

My DS has French ancestry on both sides. His natural skin tone is darker than mine when I have a tan lol. I put sunscreen on him EVERYTIME I know we are going to be outside for more than a few minutes. Particularly when it's overcast because it intensifies the sun's rays. Have you considered showing her pictures of people with severe sunburn or skin cancer? I would try it. She doesn't want to feel responsible if your DD ends up with a severe sunburn or ends up having skin cancer later on!
I'm a 21 year old, single, Christian, spanking, anti CIO, anti co-sleeping, ERF, EH, pro-life, liberal conservative, vaxing, fun loving, book toting, disposable diapering, formula feeding, whatever works, SAHM. Anyone have a problem with that?
Why is my child RF past 1year AND 20lbs? I ERF because my child is NOT a minimum, because RF is 5x safer than FF, because it is recommended by the AAP, because it is about safety not comfort, and because I can!
Ahh my sons have fair skin, and one went to summer camp, and came home looking like a lobster.... I was thinking Helloooo teacher put sun screen on him that is what I sent it in for! Have you tried maybe packing some of those sunscreen wipes? They have baby ones, and they are so easy to re-apply. Maybe if it was something really quick, and convenient your stepmom would be more inclined to use it?
You say she is 32. Well I am almost 37 I have never used sunscreen on myself and unless my MIL forces me to use to it on my kids I never did until the last year-and even now it is mostly on their faces-I understand skin damage and all that but for me I never used it as a kid I am not going to know-as for my kids my oldest is way too sensitive to any sunscreen, so because of that I have always been careful with my other 2. But to my main point-just because she is in her 30's we are a different generation when it comes to the sun with many of us.

I'm 38 and I put sunscreen on my daughter always. My son is only 11 weeks, so we keep him out of the sun peroid. I didn't use sunscreen when younger either. Well, maybe the hawiian tripic with spf 2.
