According to the Reedy Creek Fire Department, the accident happened about 2 a.m. at the Epcot ticket and transportation area, where people catch the monorail to the Magic Kingdom and several Disney hotels. The driver of the other train was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
About five or six guests were on the monorail at the time of the accident, but they are not seriously injured.
"We mourn the loss of our fellow cast member," Mike Griffin, Disney World's vice president of public affairs, said in a statement. "Our hearts go out to his family and those who have lost a friend and coworker."
Griffin said the monorail is closed at this time.
It is not known how the two trains crashed. The Orange County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
The monorail began operations in 1971. Each monorail can carry more than 350 people between the parking lot, hotels, the Magic Kingdom and Epcot.
