How long will you keep leftovers before tossing them?  Does it depend on the type?

Thanks!

My husband is a food snob and will not eat leftovers.  On the rare occasion that I keep them, they're gone by garbage day on Friday.

7 days.  Most foods are bad after 7 days.  Except turkey or chicken.  They are gone after 5 days.

for about 3 days, cause after that if no one has ate it by then I know no one will and it will end up bad anyways.

That's a good point.  At my house, too, if it's not be been touched in a few days it probably won't be later either.

It definitely depends on what the "left-overs" are.  I used to work in a kitchen and we would not keep any leftover meats for anymore than 24 hours.  And once a bag of cheese was opened it was good for no more than 3 days.  Lettuce was good for 24 hours after opening.  So macaroni & cheese leftover I usually keep in the fridge for 3 days or hamburger helper.  Leftover steaks, chickens, porkchops all go out after 24 hours.

Hope that helps.
