How do I get him to stay in his bed????

I just switched my 19 month old to a toddler bed. He was climbing out of his crib and I was afraid he would really get hurt, so I had to make the transition... It's been 2 days, which is 2 naps and 2 bed time's.

Nap one ~ Never went to sleep... Got out of bed every 2 minutes for an hour and a half I kept tucking him back in, and he ended up learning to open his bedroom door and get out of his room... I said screw it, he'll go to bed early

Bedtime one ~ Fell asleep watching cartoons at 7 o'clock. I carried him into bed. He woke up at 8:30 (his normal bedtime is 7:30-8:00). Fought with him for 2 hours, every 3-5 minutes he was back out of bed.. Finally he gave up and went to sleep..

Nap time two ~ Again I tucked him back in every 3-5 minutes for an hour, till he finally gave in and went to sleep

Bed time two ~ Only had to tuck him back in every 5-10 minutes., for 2 hours...

How can I get him to stay in bed... A few days ago when he was still in his crib, he was only getting out of bed once before he fell asleep, but he would climb out in the morning too, and knock on the door... until I'd come get him.. I'm wondering if he's not ready for this transition..

I live with my parents so I can't make his room any less fun, I have no where to put all his toys... So he lays there looking at them and gets up and plays with them...
