Leaving kids alone while getting gas

This is another thing that i can not stand. I work at a gas station and I see all the time that parents leave the kids in the car while they come in to pay for gas. They get mad at me because they have to wait in line and they want me to let them cut and I can't. It is not my fault that you are in a hurry and left your kids in the car.

I told one lady she should be carful because i heard of a case where a lady was watching a mother to leave the car and left the kid alone and she went into the car and stole the car and the kid. she got mad at me and said i was scaring her  so she left.

So why do parents leave the kids to pay for gas. And i am talking toddlers and newborns. It is too hot and it dose not take much to grab a child so why take the chance. Yes I see it ALL THE TIME.

Another thing is when they let there kids come inside to pay for gas. It annoys me because the kids are like 5 or younger and they can barely speak or they just look at me and don't know what number they are on or how much so they have to get the mom or dad and the parents get mad at me for making them come in. Not my fault. Stop being lazy. I am so scared that one day a child will get hit by a car because people drive crazy in the gas station. Especially at night and the kids will just run out not paying attention.

I don't know maybe it's just me but i take my DD with me and the one time i let her go by her selve to get something out of the gas station I pulled right up to the front of the store and i mean close to the door as possible and I could see her. If I can't see her I am right by her even thou she is 9 i don't let her out of my sight.

So someone please help me understand this.

I don't drive much and I've never had to put gas in the car. If I did, I would make sure to find a full service station so I wouldn't have to worry about this. I wouldn't leave my kids in the car. If I couldn't find a full service station, I would pay by credit card at the pump......most places around here have the things so that you can swipe your card right there, without going into the store.

That's why I have a debit, credit, or check card...so I can pay at the pump.  We are no longer living in the 50-60's and most people are to trusting for their own good

That is so ridiculous. My son RF's in my 2 door Escort and I still make sure to take him out of the car and into the store with me every single time. And sending your little kid alone into the store? Wow.

I use my debit card when I get gas, but if there was a time that I had to go in I would never leave my daughter in the car alone.  I would just take her with me.  How lazy do you have to be?  I can't believe anyone would actually do that!!

IMO there is no good reason or excuse as to why you can't take a few extra seconds and bring your child in with you. I refuse to leave my kids in the car at all, it only takes a second for someone to car jack you, or try and kidnap your child. Besides that most gas stations have the pay at the pump option now, with cash or a card.

My son is 6 and I make him come in with me every time. If we are our together and DH isn't with me I even make him come in the ladies restroom with me. I'm not letting him go in the mens public restroom to be molested or even oogled by some pervert. I never let him out of my sight when we are out.

I am probably going to be bashed for this but I am one of those moms who leave the kids in the car to pay for gas. I live in Maine so the weather doesn't get as hot as other states, but still hot none the less. Most all the gas stations here only have 2 pumps anyways so it's not usually very busy when I go get gas.

Most of the time I do leave my dd in the car when I pay for gas. I pay attention to the line in the store and if I am going to be able to run in and out, I will lock the car with the windows open/ or the ac going, and have my spare key in my pocket. If there is a line, I will take my dd out of the car if it is very hot/cold.

Now I do also have a new baby coming anyday, so now I will have 2 kids to worry about, but right now, it just isn't very good for me to get my dd in and out of the car for running in to pay gas.

The other thing is that if the pumps and store look busy, I will drive to a smaller less busy store so I can be even quicker and still keep an eye on my vehicle.

I wish I could help you understand but I dont either. I will never understand why you would leave your child in the car for ANYTHING. My daughter is 7 and I would NEVER leave her alone in the car.To me its just asking for trouble. Whats the big deal with taking a few extra seconds to drag your kids inside to keep them safe. I say if it such a hassle then go get gas when your husband or someone os home to watch them or get a debit card so you dont have to leave the pump. This argument has been argued to death on here and I still cannot believe that some people think its ok to leave their kids alone for any amount of time for any reason. There is no good reason and no excuse. I will never understand jeopardizing the safety of your precious babies.

Man some people are so stupid!!  There is no way I would just let my son go into the gas station by himself, anyone can just snatch him up and put him in their car and take off!

I also do not leave him in the car when I have to go in to pay for it, it's not THAT time consuming or hard to bring your kid with you...

And if people are too lazy to carry multiple kids in (that's the excuse I hear the most) then maybe they shouldn't have had more than one....
