Last night the doctors came to me and asked me to sign a form consinting to having my daughters blood tested for genetic abnormalities........Im scared, they said her hemoglobin is low and coninues to fall and reticulocyte count is high. The doc doesnt know whats going on yet, and woudlnt even give us some of the possible things that can cause this. Im scared out of my mind, this is our first set back, not sure if its major yet. Her corrected age is now 33 weeks gestation, 4 weeks (birth age) Im still very new to this.

a preemie's blood counts can fluctuate at any point in their recovery. That is why its common for preemies to need blood transfusions, plasma, ect.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, he is probably just covering his bases, but its normal for that to happen, especially in micro preemies.

How early was your daughter by chance and how much did she weigh?

She was born at 28 and 5/7ths weeks, she weighed 2 pounds 4 ounces....and now weighs 3 pounds 9 ounces. The doctors seem quite concerned about this

I would do some research about it to ease your mind. Hope all goes well.

try not to worry though. Like i said preemie's can have flucations in their blood counts..Its probably all going to be just fine.

I would talk to her doctors though and demand them give you some answers, any.
